Northern Beaches Cooks for a Cause

Local recipes dish up funds for Cambodia and other community projects

Northern Beaches Christian School (NBCS) is celebrating the landscape, lifestyle and community of Sydney’s northern beaches with the launch of Northern Beaches Cooks – a unique and stunningly produced cookbook created to raise funds for key school development projects and a range of charitable causes, both local and international.

A significant portion of the charity-allocated funds will go towards the school’s support of ‘Mission Cambodia’, an initiative which provides assistance to a local community on the banks of the Mekong River at Steng Trong, a few hours drive north of Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital. In a country that continues to suffer the devastating effects of landmines left by 3 decades of war, NBCS supports a range of community projects from socio-economic assistance to house building, food and rice distribution, medical aid and other necessities of life and well-being for this special community. Handson practical support is also provided by the groups of school students that visit this community once a year.

Local charities to benefit from the sale of Northern Beaches Cooks include the Warringah/Pittwater Rural Fire Service Brigade, the Sydney Northern Beaches Surf Life Saving Branch, the Warringah/Pittwater State Emergency Service Unit and the Bringa Women’s Resource Centre the only refuge on Sydney’s Northern Beaches for women and children who are the victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and other forms of abuse.
